Beauty and the Sphinx
“From the gate of the 3000 year old Temple honoring Amenophis II, a daughter of the 20th century stands reading a glorious page from Egypt’s history expressed on the silent face of the Sphinx.”
From a critique of my 1952 Cairo exhibition, Scenes of Egypt, that appeared in Al Mussawar.
For a Long Life
The Goddess Mout greets King Amenophis II at the doorway to the Temple by extending to him an Ankh,
the symbol of life. When the Ambassador to Egypt, Jefferson Caffrey saw the photographs of this 3000-year old bas-relief
he asked me to use it to create the Embassy’s 1951 Christmas card with the wish, For a Long Life.
